Job Description - Director of Community Impact


 
 
Organization Overview: United Way of Southeast Mississippi is a local non-profit organization that strives to make a positive impact in Forrest, Lamar, Marion, and Perry counties.  By providing funds to partner agencies, United Way of Southeast Mississippi addresses community issues in four impact areas: healthy community, youth opportunity, financial security, and community resiliency.
 
Overview of position: The Director of Community Impact is responsible for working towards achieving long-lasting, meaningful community change and impact in Forrest, Lamar, Marion, and Perry counties. The individual in this position will focus on community impact areas and initiatives as outlined in the UWSEMS Community Impact Plan. The position is also responsible for overseeing the process of fund distribution, funded agency support, community research, and community collaboration development. 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate the development, maintenance, and monitoring of the UWSEMS Community Impact strategy.
  • Continually explore ways to bring new resources to address impact areas.
  • Cultivate and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with others, providing leadership to community efforts as needed.
  • Oversee the funding process (Partner Agency& Development Grants), including grant development, distribution, technical assistance, collection, and communication.
  • Assure and maintain a strong implementation and understanding of outcome measurement principles and practice, including training and support of agencies and volunteers, integrating outcome measurements within the funding process, and analyzing the impact of outcome measurements in achieving organizational mission and strategic goals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communicator

  • Experience in research and planning; knowledge of nonprofits, human services, and philanthropy

  • Facilitative skills

  • Strong analytical ability; must be able to interpret, report, and use data

  • Ability to lead and convene community groups around specific human services issues.

  • Well-organized, efficient, detail-oriented

  • Ability to work on many different types of tasks and work well with others to accomplish the work of the organization

  • Strong volunteer management skills and ability to staff volunteer committees.

  • Experience in working with diverse populations

  • Ability to develop donor relationships by utilizing excellent interpersonal communication, and customer service skills

  • Have a reliable vehicle; possess a current driver’s license and auto insurance, to complete some required tasks for UWSEMS

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree. 

Experience: 

  •  Two to three years of nonprofit experience. 

  •  Grant development and management experience

  •  Knowledge of program evaluation and methodologies and outcome measurement. 

 

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS 

  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  •  Experience using Google Workspace tools, including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, and Google Drive.

  •  Ability to create, edit, and manage documents, spreadsheets, and presentations across both platforms.

  •  Comfortable working in both cloud-based and desktop environments.

     

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with leadership, staff and the public.  Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • This person must be able to remain in a stationary position at the workstation 50% of the time and participate in meetings on and off-site 50% of the time.

  • This person must be able to use their own transportation for visits throughout the Southeast Mississippi community at least 100% of the time.

  • Frequent walking or standing is required.

  • The person in this position needs to be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • Hands are regularly used to write, type, key, and handle or feel small controls.

  • Weights of up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.

WORK SCHEDULE
Typical schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  However, flexibility is required due to the nature of the business. The schedule may be changed as needed to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
