COVID-19 Relief Program Application

Information & Instructions - PLEASE READ

The United Way of Southeast Mississippi COVID-19 Relief Program provides assistance to households in Forrest, Lamar, Marion and Perry counties who have lost employment income due to measures taken to slow the spread of COVID-19. Assistance is awarded to households through an application process to pay past due rent, power, water and/or natural gas bills. Only one application will be accepted per household.

A maximum of $500.00 could be awarded per household, but varying amounts will be approved on a case-by-case basis, focusing on need and funds available.

Applicants should prepare and have access to photos or scans of the following documents prior to completing the application:

  • Driver's License or Photo ID of applicant.
  • Past due bill(s) for rent and/or utilities in the applicant's name. Note that a lease is not considered a bill for rent. You must provide a notice of past due rent via a resident portal, direct communication with your landlord, a physical notice, etc.
  • Any documents proving a claim of lost employment or reduced hours. We strongly encourage formal communications from an employer dictating that any layoffs or reduced hours were due to COVID-19. Additional documents may include a pay stub from prior to March 1st and a current pay stub to show a decrease in pay, a 1099 form to prove self-employment, or unemployment certification letters with applicant name listed

Please be aware that lack of above documentation or information could result in delay or denial of your application. Any assistance approved will be paid directly to the utility company or landlord in the applicant's name. Allow 7-8 business days for any payments to be processed and received. Applicants will be notified of any payments via email to the address provided on the application.

If applicants have any questions or concerns, email us at info@unitedwaysems.org
