Volunteer Needs
Whatever your age, your level of education, your skills and talents, the American Red Cross welcomes you as a volunteer. We aim to do our best to make your volunteer experience valuable and meaningful. There are many possibly volunteer assignments available. We depend on our volunteers to take on specific jobs and make them their own. We need committed people available on a regular basis for leadership positions. We will also occasionally need people for short-term projects. Click here to download a volunteer application.
Meet Esmeralda
Esmeralda Layton and her fiance Howard Stewart were dealt a devastating blow when their mobile home was destroyed by severe weather that ripped through South Mississippi in the spring of 2011. This is the second time that Layton and Stewart have sorted through their belongings, having previously lost everything to Hurricane Katrina.
"This is a bigger mountain than we are ready to climb," Stewart said. "But we are lucky to be alive."
Layton was at a gym exercising, and Stewart was at work when the severe weather struck. Both consider this a great blessing after seeing the state of their home. Both thank the Red Cross for the quick response to their needs.
"The Red Cross has made sure we have what we need for the next few days - a place to stay, food, clothing and shoes. It's a big help because we have nothing."
