What Does United Way's Funding Do?

United Way dollars funded the Relatives as Parents program, which offers health, nutrition, recreational and support programs for families in which grandparents or other relatives are raising grandchildren.

The Impact of Your United Way Investment

Through the nutritional, recreational and educational activities, grandparents become healthier and more informed, which enables them to be better caregivers. Grandchildren also become healthier - physically and emotionally - from the programs and support.

Meet Pauline and Nicole

As a senior citizen, Pauline Anderson never thought she’d be worrying about homework and peer pressure and teenage social activities at this time in her life. But these are the issues Pauline now faces as she is raising her granddaughter Nicole Saucier.

Pauline is grateful for the Pinebelt Association for Families for the support and services that the organization provides her. Pauline and Nicole are just one example of the 1,750 local cases of children being raised by family other than their parents.

Nicole is also thankful for the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program. “We can really connect with other people who have been raised by their grandparents,” she said.
