Who Are They?

The Family YMCA’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. There are a myriad of programs and services for children, teens, adults, families and active adults, many with a special emphasis on childcare and health enhancement. In addition, The Family Y provides recreational and social programs at no charge for those with special needs and mental disabilities. All programs at the Y are structured around the core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. The Family YMCA is a non-profit, charitable community-based organization committed to helping individuals grow in spirit, mind and body, regardless of financial circumstances. No one is turned anyone away due to an inability to pay. Financial assistance is available for all programs through funding from United Way of Southeast Mississippi, Partners with Youth Program and Friends of the Y.

What Does United Way's Funding Do?

United Way provides scholarships for families and individuals unable to pay for pre-school and afterschool educational programming.

The Impact of Your United Way Investment

Thanks to United Way's financial assistance, children in The Y's pre-school program are better prepared to enter kindergarten, and the school-age children enhance their academic studies, helping them become better students.

Volunteer Needs

All types of volunteers are welcome from customer service to childcare to maintenance. In most cases the Family Y can accommodate most all volunteer inquiries.

Meet Deana

"The YMCA has been a very important part of my family for almost 10 years. Since the first day my brother and I began at the Y, I have always felt encouraged and motivated by the staff. As I approach my senior year at Sacred Heart High School, I have a much greater appreciation for how much the Y cares. The Y is a great place to be yourself, experience new things, meet new friends and build a better relationship with God. The Y staff has become my family. I will cherish every minute I've spent at the YMCA. I now volunteer at the Y in hopes of giving back to others as the Y has done for me. I will never forget all of the help that the Y has given me to be the person that I am today."
