What Does United Way's Funding Do?
United Way funds are used for the Scoutreach program, which provides underprivileged youth the opportunity to participate in Scouting.
The Impact of Your United Way Investment
Disadvantaged youth receive leadership training and other opportunities through the Scoutreach program. Scouts earning the Eagle Scout rank are motivated to finish high school and attend college.
Troop leaders are needed to work with youth on a weekly basis. Other needs include assistance with audio/visual projects and maintenance for facilities. A background check is required for volunteers.
Fred has been involved in the Scoutreach program of the Boy Scouts since he was eight years old. Scoutreach provides Boy Scout troops for young boys who might not be able to afford Scouting or don’t have Scouting opportunities available. Fred became very involved in all aspects of Scouting as he grew up.
He credits his confidence and people skills to his participation. “Without Scouting, I’d probably be a loner, not a very good people person,” he said. Now he says he can walk up and talk to anyone with ease.
Fred earned Eagle Scout honors and took advantage of the positive opportunities Scouting gave him. Scouting even helped him earn a college scholarship. Fred now gives back to his community by volunteering and helping younger boys like him.
